Controls Specialist

Designing, building, testing and supporting control systems for marine and aerospace — plus the data analysis and telematics that keep them running.

What we do

Control systems, end to end

From working out what's needed, through design, software, integration and testing — and on into monitoring once the system is in use. Three areas, the same hands on the work.

  • Wireframe rendering of a commercial airliner showing internal systems

    Aerospace

Designing the electronics on aircraft, getting them through certification, and keeping them working once they're flying.

    • · Flight-control wiring and live data feeds
    • · Bench tests and ground support
    • · Getting kit into service and supporting it once it's there
  • Wireframe rendering of a marine vessel on dark water

    Marine

Control systems and software for all-electric hydrofoiling boats — prototypes and certified production vessels.

    • · System design and software
    • · Bench, rig and on-water testing
    • · Commissioning and remote monitoring in service
  • Dark map of a city overlaid with white location pins

    Data Analysis & Telematics

Turning live machine data into useful information once a system is in service — performance you can see in real time, faults caught early, trends spotted over months.

    • · Live position and performance tracking
    • · Early warning when something's going wrong
    • · Long-term trends to help plan maintenance

About

David Mitchell, Director

David is an Aerospace Systems Engineering graduate from the University of Hertfordshire, with twenty years of work across aerospace, marine and heavy machinery.

He started at Marshall Aerospace, designing and fault-finding the electronics on several aircraft types, then moved into new-product work — designing, testing, certifying and getting the kit ready for everyday use. That included time on-site with overseas customers.

On the Hybrid Air Vehicles' Airlander programme he led the control-system, electrical and flight-control wiring design, along with the live data feed back to the ground, bench testing, and ground support during flight tests.

In heavy industrial machinery, David led automation and new-product work on crushers and screeners, plus the data-analysis and telematics systems that keep machines running once they're out in the field.

Most recently the focus has been control systems and software for all-electric hydrofoiling boats — both prototypes and certified production vessels. End to end: architecture, software, bench and rig testing, on-water trials, and live data feedback once the boats are in service.

Over 20 years of bringing complex systems together and proving they work — on time and on budget.
